First Stitches
Today we had to run Bridgett to the dr's to see if she needed stitches. Poor thing! She was spinning around you know like all little girls do and she got a little dizzy and tripped and landed with her head hitting the banister railing right where it goes square. She was at Grandma's house when It happened, She and Aaron were playing together, I was at home raking up some leaves. Of course Mom and Dad could not get a hold of me so they had to call our neighbor Jill to come out and catch my attention.
I ran up to Mom's house and looked at her head and figured that she probably did need to go to the dr's for stitches. The bleeding had stopped as long as she held still but by the time we got to the dr's office it had started to bleed again. And can I just tell you that head wounds bleed a lot??
The Dr looked at her head and announced that yes it would indeed need stitches. The good news is that now instead of giving them a shot around the area to numb it, they spread this gel over the wound and let it sit for 30 mins while it numbs it. But much less disturbing for a young child than a shot!
Bridgett did great! Poor thing because of the shape of the wound (it was like an upside down V ) it took 4 stitches to get it done. I think the most disturbing thing to her was that she had to lay down while they stitched her up. They did put on a show for her and that helped to distract her a little and I stood next to her and held her hands because she kept wanting to reach up and touch her owie.
She did great.... Now Mommy, well that's another story! I did great till about stitch 3, and then I realized that I was on my way to passing out. To be honest I probably could have done it just fine if I was not pregnant. I felt really dumb but they assured me that they had scraped many mom's off the floor and at least I had caught it before I passed out! So 4 stitches later and a diet coke for mommy we were done and ready to go home.
We put a bandaid over it to hep her keep her hands off her owie and here she is snuggling with Daddy. We had to keep her calm the first day after to keep it from bleeding more. She had her stitches in for 5 days and then we went back to the Dr's to have them taken out. All in all she did great! I never did get the leaves raked and the Sister Missionaries got Papa Murphey's Pizza for dinner that night since we got home from the dr's office 5 mins before they were coming for dinner but the important thing is that Bridgett is feeling better!
