2nd Final Cake

Image
Ok so here is the final cake that I designed and decorated for my 2nd cake decorating class. It's the first time I've ever done a square cake.  Frosting a sq cake is a bit harder than doing a round one but I don't think it's to bad,  I do need more practice for sure but that's understandable.  Anyway that's my cake!  I'm actually really excited that my classes are done and over,  it's been a long month and between my classes and the cupcake orders for this month and the wedding I feel like all I have really done all month is make frosting!  Just a bit excited to not need to make frosting for a few days!

Final Cake Number 1

Ok so as promised here is my final cake for class number 1.  Ok no laughing now!  Promise? And there it is!  Want to see what it looks like on the inside?  Oh you think it looks like just a normal cake?  Hmmmmm well you would be wrong!!!!! Now you have to admit that is a BEAUTIFUL piece of cake!!!  Yummy!  (or so I was told) So now my first class is done and I have this to show for it! yea go me!  :)

Wedding cupcakes!

Well today was the wedding reception that I did cupcakes for,  It was quite fun really!  I baked them all yesterday, and today I went down to the Provo Library and got them all frosted and ready for the reception tonight.   My good friend Rebecca meet me down there and helped me to get them done,  I made and swirled the frosting and she sprinkled the pearls and placed the toppers for me.    The Brides colors were pink and black, and I spent a lot of time doing some research and testing things to find a way to make a yummy tasting black frosting.  And I think I figured it out!  So half the cupcakes were dyed black and half were dyed pink,  the pink cupcakes had black frosting and the black cupcakes had pink frosting.  Here’s some photos,  (sorry they were taken with my little cell phone camera so they are not the best but you get the idea.) I should have laid all the boxes down in a row across the counter and shot a photo ...

Birthday Cupcake order #2

Image
A few months ago My good friend Marcee asked if I would make Adam’s 1st Birthday cupcakes.  (How can he be one already?)  I told her I would be happy to!  But I don’t deliver. (She lives up by the airport)  She laughed and said that was fine.   So the theme was Trains, but not thomas the train,  rather trains like the old stem engines, and the colors were blue and yellow,  so this is what I came up with. The trains on the top were made out of chocolate molds, I think it’s especially fun when the toppers can be eaten too!  I love how four cupcakes together make a whole train.  So cute!  I hope you had a great birthday Adam!  I still can’t believe you are one.  It seems like just yesterday I was throwing a baby shower for your Mommy and you had not even arrived yet,  and now you’ve passed a big milestone.  I can’t wait to see photos of you with eating/smashing your Birthday cupcake!

Wilton Class week 2

So last night for cake class we worked on some different techniques.   Most of them were a review for me but this is what I need!  It’s so easy to forget,  and of course I can use lots of fine tuning.   Anyway by the end of class I walked out with this!  And I do have to say I was quite pleased with myself. I still have lots to work on but It’s the most smooth I’ve gotten my frosting so I’m happy with the progress.  It’s nice to be able to put a decoration on a cake because you want to and not to cover up a bad frosting job.

Cupcake Order #1

Today I had my first order for Birthday cupcakes.  My friend’s daughter was having a birthday and she wanted pretty pink princess so pink is what she got!   Her mom told me she was so proud of her cupcakes and wanted to show EVERYONE!  I’m so glad I could help to make her birthday a fun one to remember.

Summer fun

Today the kids had a great time at a play date,  My friend Shanna came over with her 3 kids and we all played out in the back yard.  They came over about 1:30 and every had so much fun the next thing we knew it was 5:30!  No wonder Bridgett was starting to get a little whiney!  Poor thing was tired and hungry,  So we had a quick dinner and everyone went to bed not long after!  Hurray for play dates that wear my kids out!!!  Thanks for coming and playing Shanna we will have to make it a weekly thing!

Camping out!

Tonight Dusty and Aaron decided to camp out in the back yard.  They went to the store and got some huge marshmallows!   Set up the tent and borrowed some sleeping bags from my parents house.  Aaron had so much fun I'm not really sure how much sleeping happened... but I guess if the point is to bond sleeping is not the first priority   Aaron trying to figure out why a Mommy was at his guys night.  I told him I would just take a few photos and then be gone so they could start the fun  He was pretty excited about this little bag of goodness!  Look at the size of those things!  Daddy likes them too!  their little fire.  and of course the comfeyness of their tent!  Have a great time guys!  I'm off to go sleep in my bed.  by myself!  :D

Class week one

So tonight was my first class for flowers and cake design,  It was fun… we used  gum paste and fondant (it’s not my most favorite thing, it’s kind of like playing with playdough…and when you are done you attach it to a cake.  Fondant is weird to me no one really like to eat it,  but they just like how it looks.  Fondant is probably the one class that I might take just to learn a little bit but not really invest to much into.)  But it was still fun to see how a few flowers are made.  Tonight we did a daisy and a pansy.  want to see pictures? Yes and there you have it,  kind of like playing with play-dough!  I came home and told mom that the cake the book showed had about 50 pansies on it and it took me 2 hours to make 2,  yep I sure hope I get faster soon!!!  But honestly I can’t wait to learn more how to make flowers using the piping bags and tips. After my class my good friends Jennifer and Melissa stopped b...

My cupcakes for a wedding???

Over the weekend I got an e-mail from my friend Somer,  She explained that her sister Ashley was getting married later this month and Somer had showed her photo of my cupcakes form my blog and she has liked them and wondered what it would cost to do 9 dozen cupcakes for her wedding.  So I called Somer back,  gave her some ideas I was already thinking and a price.  She said great and that she would talk to her sister and let me know.  Since I had not heard from them all the rest of that week or over the weekend that it was a no go, but when I got home today I had a message that I got the job!  Which I was really excited about… until I realized that I only had a 2 weeks to gather all the supplies that I needed and most of them needed to be ordered off the internet. So a wedding,  two cake decorating classes and two birthday orders.  June is shaping up to be a CRAZY month!   Hang on to your hats everyone we might be in for a wild ride!

Wilton Cake Decorating Classes

So I’ve been saying for YEARS  that I wanted to take the Wilton Cake Decorating Classes,  And I’ve been saying it a lot since I’ve lost Colette,  Something to do to keep busy type thing.  But I’ve never signed up for them.  The biggest reason is that there is no where close that offers them.  And driving into Provo at night does not always sound appealing.  Then Hobby Lobby came to our town.  Hurray!  I think I could live in that store!  I went in the other day just to grab something that I needed so I asked the lady about cake decorating classes, and on a whim signed up for the first one.  Now I’ve taken the first one before but I was only about 12 years old and I figured that a re do on the course would be helpful.  Let’s face it I”m not good at frosting a cake.  I try I really do but I’m never happy with the outcome.  I would sure love to have a beautiful finished product when I’m done frosting a cake and not somet...

Last day of School

Image
Yes I know I'm a little behind in my blogging so forgive me as I catch up! Today was Aaron's last day of school, or rather last hour and a half of school. On the last day of school tracks 1 and 2 both go to school for an hour and a half at the same time. I'm sure you can imagine how impossiblethe drop off/ pick up points are with that many cars all at the same time. So Bridgett and I walked Aaron to school, walkedhome, checked out "her white horse" on the corner on the way home. (Bridgett thinks that all white horses are hers every time we pass one she says oh there's my white horse! usually followed by It's dirty!!!!" really its' the cheapest low maintenance way tohave a pet :) So today since we were walking we stopped by the field and she tried to call the horses over to visit with her which none of them were willing to do since she had no carrots ) We did the dishes when we got home and then turned around and walked to go get Aaron ...
