Last night while Dusty was working late and after the kids were all fast asleep in bed I decided to make the skirt for Bridgett that I have been meaning to get to for a week or so. After much hemming and hawing and of course after finding out the expert opinion from my beautiful cousin of which fabrics to use I opted to go with a plain brown hem for the bottom of the skirt. Thanks Jen! (the above was the two fabrics I had first picked out to make the skirt but all week long I just kept thinking that for my taste it was just a tad to busy.) I'm so glad I went with brown!

So I sewed and ironed and sewed a little more and this was the end result, I love it!

And to my utter delight then next morning when I showed it to Bridgett it was met with "Oooo's and Awwwww's" and much clapping of hands. She even let me try it on her and take some photos. Of course she demanded the "pretty shoes" and after much convincing we were able to leave the pink Sunday tights in the drawer. Silly girl such a tom boy at time and at other times very much the little lady.

Here you can see it passes the "climb all over everything test." And the "it's long enough that our undies don't show while hanging upside down test" A very important test I might add!

Not really sure what is up with the mouth wide open thing, lately when I say smile this is what I get... :( Should make picture taking interesting for the next few months. Anyway so very happy about this skirt! I maybe have to be careful or she could end up with one in every color of fabric I can get my hands on.
Oh... and Aaron keeps asking me when I'm going to make him a shirt. Poor kid I keep telling that that I have to practice lots on the easy things for Bridgett so that I can get good enough to make him something. why do boys clothes seem so much harder to make?
LOVE IT!! Super cute fabric!
ReplyDeleteIT TURNED OUT SOOOO CUTE!! (i'm using my yelling voice!) I LOVE IT! THE BROWN LOOKS REALLY GOOD! WAY TO GO YOU!!! Boys are hard to sew for but there is always a tool belt, jammie shorts or pants and my latest fun... a TIE!!! He can have one to match Bridgett's skirt! :)
ReplyDeleteJen I need your patter for the tie!
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo darling! Ya know, I have had a sewing machine for years that has never come out of the box that it came in. You may have inspired me to get it out of the box, and try to learn to use it. I love the idea of picking our your own fantastic fabric and making something so stylish and cute! You did an awesome job Julia, she looks so adorable in her new skirt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling skirt!!! And I love the corner garden for Collette!!!
