Build a turkey anyone??
The other weekend (yes I'm late posting!) we had to run to the mall to get something and while we were there we decided to walk the mall with the kids. Boy was it crowded! I'm not sure why I was so surprised, I know the holidays are coming I guess I've just been in my own little world for so long that I have not noticed how close we are getting to them. We juggled the crowds with the kids, I wished that I had Bridgett's backpack for her so I could hang on to her bear's tale she get's so tired of reaching up to hold someone's hand, so after a while I just held on to the back of her hood. While we were there we passed the build a bear work shop and Dusty and I told Aaron that they could pick out a "bear" to build and it would be part of Aaron's reward for doing SO awesome in school and with his spelling. He has gotten 100% on every spelling test except for one and he only missed on on that test because he spelled d backwords. He's doing AMAZING!
So we go into the store and show the kids what price range they could pick from. Aaron found a bear he really liked so he was set and Bridgett.... well Bridgett decided she didn't want a bear or a bunny so what did she pick? She picked a TURKEY! yes that's right she picked a turkey. For some reason this bothered me. Maybe I was afraid that she would get home and wish she had a bear like Aaron, or maybe I just thought my daughter should be the type of daughter that WANTED a bear. Why? I have no idea. She's the type of girl who won't ever want a bunny or a bear and that's ok, she's to much like her mommy I guess! So when no amount of begging pleading or bribing worked we finally (and when I say we I mean me) found peace with Bridgett's decision to build a "turkey" so we joined the long like of children all holding their bears waiting to stuff them and I tried not to look as my daughter dragged (by the neck of course) her half deal non fluffed turkey.
Why did it bother me so much? I have no idea. Whyt do things bother us as parents? Why do we constantly try to mold them into what we think they should do instead of what they want to do?
Here are some photos of the kids as they waited patently to build their new friends.
Awwwwww look at her! She's so proud of her turkey!!!!
So they got them stuffed and then it was on to the naming process. So we sat at the computer and Aaron named his buckwheat. big surprise right? And I told Bridgett she should name her's dinner, she looked at me really funny and announced that Gobble Gobble would do. So Gobble Gobble and Buckwheat it is! I still need to take some after photos so you can see them in all their stuffed glory, but Aaron and Bridgett seem very happy with the new additions to their family. Bridgett carries Gobble Gobble around all day by the neck. (yes it's still weird to see but I must admit that he's grown on me too!) she snuggles him and loves him and wraps him up in a blanket when I can't stop to snuggle her.

I love it that Bridgett wanted a turkey, that is so darn cute! And the fact that she just loves it and cuddles with it is even better.
ReplyDeleteP.S. There is a mall in AF?
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about a those turkey's that kids love...my friend's 5-year-old insisted on the turkey as well. As much as she tried to talk him out of it, it didn't work and he left the store happy as a clam with Turkey Lurkey.
