Ordering our first set of two!

Today I ordered our first set of two.... Two car seats to be exact!  With the pregnancy being two babies and with it being over 8 years since we bought all of our last baby things,  we are finding that while these are our last babies we are needing to start over,  Car seats expire, Cribs break and or are recalled... and strollers well we've never needed a stroller to fit two before.   However this has been rather fun and exciting!  For the first time since we've started having children I get to actually pick out new baby things, and it's pretty fun!

I've been on the hunt for an infant car seat.  My goodness they have come a long way in the last 8 years with car seats!  When we were pregnant with Aaron they really didn't have a huge variety of car seats.  there were a few brands but they all went to the same height, and weight and you pretty much just picked the pattern that you liked and called it good.  Now oh my goodness!  Not only are there so many different brands but so many different styles and go up to different weigh's.  This is a good thing though.  Aaron's car seat went up to 22lbs.  which was standard back then.  Only problem was that Aaron and Bridgett both hit 22lbs at 5 months.  which means that at 5 months we had to move them up to the next size car seat.   And of course this next car seat stays in the car so I had to buckle and unbuckle them every time we got in and out of the car instead of being able to grab the car seat and go.  The other problem is that at 5-6 months my little ones could not sit up on their own yet so when we would go to the store I always had to buy several 4 pks of toilet paper cuz I had to use it to prop my child up with to help them sit happily in the cart. Now imagine needing to do this with  two babies not just one!  It's almost enough to make you head spin!  But now they have car seats that go up to 30 lbs and some even 35 lbs.  Now the 35lbs ones are so big and so heavy that it's just not even piratical to me, but the up to 30 lbs  now that is a great thing!  So I've been on the search for a car seat that won't cost an arm and a leg that goes up to 30 lbs.  Hopefully since I'm sure these babies will be smaller than Aaron at 9 lbs and Bridgett at 9.5 lbs they will start smaller and grow a bit slower than my other babies did and be in these car seats for a while!

Anyway Today I ordered two of these...

So excited!  Dusty of course is excited because I ordered them off of Amazon Prime and it gave him 12 more months of Amazon Prime for free!  I'm so happy that were both happy :)  You have to love that free 2 day shipping!
I've also been looking for a crib that would work, since we have no crib at this moment in time.  Now the crib we won't need to order until a few months after they are born.  So it's not like we need to have it to bring them home from the hospital like the car seats but none the less I've been doing some research so that I know exactly what I want and what to order when we are ready.  I know that I want them both to convert to toddler beds so that these little guys will be set till they are 4 or 5.   I don't need a 600 dollar crib, I don't need them to last through 5 more babies :)  although they probably will.

But this is what I've been looking at crib wise

Did I mention that I love white?  So this is what I'm looking at crib wise,  and it converts into a toddler bed.   And last but not least we have the stroller.   Of all things needed to buy this would be the hardest double strollers are... well bulky heavy and not the most easy to use!  You either have the side by side and ca't fit through a doorway  or you have them front to back and you stick out so far you can't turn and its so heavy that its not easy to push o steer or get in or out of the car.   I don't want to get stuck with something i hate for the next 4 years!

I did find this.  it seems to be very easy to to push,  fold, load and steer!    Those would be the pro's.  The con's?  Well the front seat goes up to 44 lbs,  which is great!  The back seat?  The back seat only goes up to 33 lbs.  With 44 lbs I know that I can use it till they are 4, but with the back seat being up to only 33 lbs i'm just not sure its the best fit for twins....great I think for two siblings close in age... still thinking this one through.  Anyone have any double stroller recommendations?

  1. Love the carseats... wish I could give you my white crib (doesn't convert to toddler bed though) I've seen those strollers around...You can't put the infant carseats in it right? and not much of a view for the kid on the bottom! :) ha ha Good Luck! They already have new and improved things since Sydney was born.

    1. Two boys! That is so exciting! We are so happy for you guys.

I bet ordering those carseats was so fun. I have a couple friends with the Phil and Ted's and they love them. I've never heard of a kid minding being in the bottom position, I had wondered the same thing as Jenn but they won't know any different! :)

  3. I don't know you either (I was Carrie's roommate at college) Ourbanksaccount is my sister-in-law. I am pregnant with my first but we bought a Phil and Teds because of the awesome experience I have had with her kids and it. It is so nice to push on all terrain, a WONDERFUL jogging stroller, or just normal stroller. The handle adjusts to all heights (which I love because I am tall.) And they always would fight over the back, the back isn't even awkward when you are pushing it! The one thing I would suggest is making a cover for it if it is going to be in the sun a lot, as with any stroller it will fade, but making a cover is really easy! Good luck!
