Something wicked this way...slithers.

Bridgett learned a new word today. No despite what you would think, it was not a cuss word. It was "snake" she also learned that its appropriate and perfectly ok for one to scream after seeing this new word. Bridgett and I spent the afternoon while Aaron was at school working out in the yard. The last thing on the list was to mow the lawn so I got out the lawn mower and started it up and began mowing the back lawn. Imagine my surprise when something slithered out from under my feet and proceeded to watch me with it's little beady eyes from the dirt. Needless to say I was very startled and then a little perturbed that it was content to just STAY in our yard! I grabbed Bridgett and ran into the house to call dusty and see what he suggest I do. In tears I explained that we had a "visitor" and it would not go away and I didn't like it! He thought it was quite funny, he told me to chuck a few rocks at it to see if I could not get it to move on. So I did, and to my delight it slithered under the back fence to the Neighbors yard. (Yes sorry Jenny I shooed it into your yard but only because I was hoping that Max would chase it away) I went inside quite happy with my snake free yard, put the phone away came back outside and started up the lawn mower again. I had only take a few steps when I felt the feeling of being watched. I slowly turned my head only to discover that...

HE WAS BACK!

Apparently our yard with a screaming lady, a loud lawn mower and a little girl was much more inviting than a yard with Max in it.

Again I turned off the lawn mower, grabbed Bridgett and ran into the house to call dusty again. He answers the phone by asking if the snake was back. I informed him yes and then I did something that in 8 years of marriage I have never done. I told him to get home and take care of it!

Now you have to realize that I consider myself a pretty independent person. I can do most things by myself. Dusty often has to work late and while it's not my fav thing I can take care of the house the kids and keep my sanity for the most part pretty well. But apparently I don't do snakes.

So Dusty came home and used a rake and we got it into a large brown paper bag, gave it some air holes and Dusty took it back to work, It turns out that his Manager ( who knew exactly what was going on because Dusty thought It was so comical that he had me on speaker phone) has a house that backs up to a river so he took our snake home and let it go out in his back yard where it could have a good home near the water.

And so I say to Mr snake I hope you have a wonderful life. Please don't come back our back yard is not big enough for the both of us!

And to my neighbors... I'm hurt! I spent over half an hour screaming my head off. It was no small ruckus! If you were screaming in your back yard I would come to see if you were ok. :)

  1. i'm sorry but that was probably the funniest thing I've read all day! I of course would of done the same thing you did-- except I wouldn't call my husband because he would come home and catch it and put it in a cage and put it in the boys room and he would feed it lizards and mice and it would be a pet--- and his name would be King Benjamin...WAIT this already happened to me... yuck yuck!

  2. Ohhhh, yuck!!! I HATE snakes!! I used to see them a lot at our old house and if Randy wasn't home, I would run to my next door neighbor's house and he would cut their heads off with a shovel. :P I don't do snakes, either! I am SO scared of them!

  4. Julia I laughed especially since it was you. Mrs. Independent and I can almost handle anything. I don't mean that rudely, but I know you are one tough cookie. It is a great story, but one I have lived. I do the same exact thing. Another reason I laugh. Except for the husband part and the daughter part. I scream and call for help as well. :)

  6. Thank-you for leaving me a comment on my blog. Sadly, I know your story. You see, I am a PCT on mom/baby at American Fork Hospital. I remember even what room you were in, because I was there the day you went home. Oh how my heart ached for you, that day you left, knowing what it was to leave empty handed and to cry the whole way home. I remember the somberness of the nurses as I heard you story. I wished I could have run up and hugged you, and just told you how sorry I was to have to go through this. I have thought so many times about how you were, how you were doing, how your family was doing. I was in the hallway when you came out, and I smiled a somber smile for you, knowing what an elect princess you have and what an amazing mother you are. So often people think their kids are perfect, but very few actually get to say that truthfully, something you get to proudly claim. Your Colette is so pretty. I wish she was here, I wish that you were experiencing the sleepless nights with feedings and changing diapers. I remember after Lilly and Ryker passed how much I wished I was experiencing the up at nights, changings, crying baby, to know that out of it came a sweet healthy baby. Anyways, the first year is the hardest. When you have those days, I would love to talk to you. Talking to someone who understands is something I was so grateful for with the loss of our babes. My e-mail is littleforeverfamily@gmail.com.
    Heart hugs,
    Emily
