Pioneer day BBQ

Today we celebrated Pioneer day.  Since Sunday was the 24th we decided to have our big family BBQ dinner on the 25th.  This morning we ran to the grocery store to make sure that we had some food for the week.  After that I made cupcakes for the dinner and got them all ready to go.   I was very sad I had bought these darling cupcake toppers for the tops of my Red, White and Blue cupcakes and now I can't find them! I have looked everywhere... I'm sure I will find them but I had really wanted to use them today.  Oh well there is always next year right?  Guess I need to be better organized.

Anyway here are my cupcakes!  I was excited to make them for my family.  I realized just the other week that even though I have been doing cupcakes for orders,  I have never made them for an extended family dinner.  Sad huh?

And when you unwrap them they look like this...

We reserved the the pavilion at our Church for our Dinner.  We had rolls and lunch meats and cheeses and everyone brought some fruit and salads to share.  After dinner we had a great time playing nad just being together as a family.  It was 2 days before my cousin Jake went into the MTC so it was kind of a last supper before our family is going to be all together again.  So of course the camera had to come out for some last min photos!  Sadly I didn't think to bring my flash so some of the photos are a little dark but at least I thought to bring my camera!

After our dinner and play time we went home and tossed the filthy children into the tub and hosed them down.  (At one point Aaron was doing sand angles in the sand... umm yes.)   Once they were washed from head to two we put on some long shirts and pants and headed up to Mom's house.  We did some fireworks or at least we made a valiant effort!  It started just pouring!   But Roy and Jeff and Jeremiah put up a great show and got soaked in the process.  Thanks everyone for a great even.  We have the best family ever and I'm so grateful to be a branch of this family tree :D
